اچھوتوں کا ادب : ڈاکٹر مبارک علی طن

یہ کتاب دراصل دو حصوں پر مشتمل ہے۔ پہلے حصہ میں اچھوتوں کے حوالے سے ہندو مذہب کی سماجی درجہ بندی کی تاریخ اور اس درجہ بندی کے پیچھے عوامل کو بیان کیا گیا ہے۔ ہندو سماج میں اچھوتوں کا کیا مقام ہے ان کے مقام کو کس طرح مذہب کی سپورٹ دے کر ان سے بدسلوکی کو جائز کیا گیا ہے اور کس طرح انہیں ان کے مقام پر رکھنے کے لیے اگلے جنم کا لالچ دیا گیا ہے تاکہ وہ سر جھکائے اپنا مقرر کردہ کام عبادت سمجھ کر کرتے رہیں اور اونچی کلاسوں کے خلاف بغاوت نہ کریں۔ ہندو مذہب و سماج میں اچھوتوں / شودروں کی حیثیت غلاموں سے بھی بد تر ہے۔

لو جی بشریٰ رحمان کا تیسرا ناول تو ہم سے مکمل نہیں ہوسکا سو ان سے ہٹ کر کسی اور رائیٹر کا ایک اور عوامی رومانی ناول اٹھایا ۔۔ ابھی آدھا ہی پڑھا ہے ، اسٹوری تو اچھی ہے لیکن اس میں جیسے سارے ہی کردار ایک دوسرے کی کن سوئیاں لینے پر تلے بیٹھے ہیں۔ 

ہیرو نے اچانک ہیروئین اور اپنی بہن کی باتیں سن لیں۔ اور انہیں ہیروئن سے محبت ہوگئی، ہیروئن نے ہیرو کی بہن اور بھتیجی کی باتیں سن لیں اور وہ ان کے غم میں گھل گھل مرنے لکیں اور مڑی تو ہیرو پیچھے ہی کھڑا تھا، پھر ہیرو کی بہن نے سائیڈ ہیرو اور ہیرو یعنی اپنے بھائی کی باتیں سن لیں اور ان سے شدید بدگمان ہوگئیں ،ناول مزید آگے چلا تو ہیرو کی بہن نے سائیڈ ہیرو اور اسکی والدہ کی باتیں سن لیں اور وہ ان سے بھی بدگمان ہوگئیں۔ والدہ نے ہیرو اور اس کے دوست کی باتیں سن لیں ۔۔ اور انہیں کچھ کچھ معاملہ سمجھ میں آیا

ہمارے آفس میں ایک منی سی لائبریری ہے، جس میں ایک الماری ادبی شاہکاروں کے لیے مختص ہے۔ لیکن ادبی کتابوں میں زیادہ تر رومانی ناولز ہیں کام کی کتابیں کم ہیں۔ ہم نے ان کتابوں سے تھوڑا سا استفادہ کیا ہے۔ زیادہ تر ہم فیس بک پر ہوتے ہیں جس نے ہمارے مطالعے کی عادت کو خاصا نقصان پہنچایا ہے۔ 

خیر ایک دن ہمیں خیال آیا کہ ایسا نہ ہو کہ اس آفس یا دنیا میں ہمارے دن پورے ہوجائیں۔ تو کیوں نہ ان کتابوں کو پڑھ لیا جائے۔ لہذہ ہم نے ترتیب وار کتابیں پڑھنے کا فیصلہ کیا۔ اس ترتیب میں سب سے پہلے بشریٰ رحمان کے ناولز کی باری آئی۔ 

"لگن" سے اسٹارٹ لیا۔ دوچار پیج پڑھ کر اندازہ ہوا کہ یہ تو نادیہ خان والے ڈرامے بندھن کی اشٹوری سی لگ رہی ہے۔ جیسے جیسے پڑھتے گئےیہ تاثر پختہ ہوتا گیا حتیٰ کہ ثابت ہوگیا کہ یہ وہی کہانی ہے۔ کرداروں کے نام بھی وہی ہیں۔ اب ایک "ڈراماٹائزڈ" ناول کو پڑھنے میں ایک قباحت یہ ہے کہ پڑھنے کے دوران آپ کرداروں کو نہیں اداکاروں کو مکالمے ادا کرتے محسوس کرتے ہیں۔

The Old Man and The Sea: Earnest Hemingway

The story of commitment and courage of an old man who sails into sea and catches a very big fish. Although other fishes ate every bit of flesh from his catch but he manages to bring skeleton of that big fish to the shores.

Moral of the story: trying for your goal and struggling for it is what means most for a man.

"Pygmalion" by George Bernard Shaw.

This book is about a street girl selling flowers and wants to become a sales girl in any flower shop. She meets with 2 gentlemen who train and transform this girl into a Lady. An interesting account of a woman's feeling after this transformation.

The Bastard of Istambul: Elif Shafak

The only rational paragraph:

"the truth is ..... some among the Armenians in the diaspora would never want the Turks to recognize the genocide. If they do so, they will pull the rug out from under our feet and take the strongest bond that unite us. Just as the Turks have been in the habit of denying their wrongdoing, the Armenians have been in the habit of savoring the cocoon of victimhood. The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

My opinion about the author is that he is too inspired from Eastern and Arab part of the world, especially the literature. His book's names and characters reflect this inspiration: Aleph, Maktub, Alchemist, (the female in the novel is Fatima). The story of Alchemist might be inspired of copied from one of the Arab tales. I have read it earlier , do not remember when and where but when I read this novel I realized that this is not something new, however the treatment to the story has been changed but the central idea is the same.

If Rumi n Shams Tabrezi were in present age, they would have been blamed of being Homosexuals, and Shams Tabrezi would have been punished for Child Marriage as well as for Child Sexual Abuse as per this novel's info ;)

Out of Africa by Keran Blixen

"The Grass was me,

The Air ...

The distant invisible Mountains were me,

is an autobiographical account of a lady who spent more than a decade on a farmland in Kenyia and actively participated in farm life as well as country life. Her description of African landscape is fabulous. she makes you feel that you are living in that landscape at the very moment. She describes wild instincts of Natives, traditions, values, customs of Muhammadan Somalis, behaviors and misconceptious biases of settlers interestingly. 

She has keen interest in wild life, landscapes and weather of Africa. Her accounts include the legal cases among Natives n Somali wherein she served as judge, of her Native Squatters whom she was a keeper, a doctor and a teacher at the same time, of Game safaris far inlands of Kenya, of lion hunting, of happenings on coffee farms, of long rains, of short rains, of no rains are of great interest as well as of learning. She made a good comparison of difference of opinion among Settlers, Natives and Somalis based on their biases, instincts and religion respectively.

WARNING:

DO NOT watch the movie based on this book. They have destroyed the adventure element of the story and have turned it into a cheap love story filled with sex.

Birth of A Killer: Darren Shan

Thanks to Raffay Imtiaz, I got to know the wonderful world of Vampires. Loved it. I wish I could make a movie on this book. The obvious choice for the main lead would be none other than Johnny Depp ;)
